AAC, Literacy & the SLP
AACES Conference On-Demand Session
The Basics & Beyond: Core Vocabulary & More
This session will focus on moving AAC users beyond the initial stages of treatment, which often focus on core words and device navigation. Using real life examples and practical activities, the speakers will provide steps for promoting language growth both into more sophisticated language structures and meaningful social interactions. Learners will review the Brown’s Language Stages and be given the opportunity to rate individuals at a baseline level. Activities for increasing language complexity will then be discussed, with video support provided. Goal writing will also be discussed.
