Incorporating Comprehensive Literacy Instruction into AAC Intervention

This session will discuss how Speech Language Pathologists can select appropriate activities and materials that can be easily incorporated into AAC intervention to support emergent literacy skills. Participants who attend will have the opportunity to view previously recorded literacy-based activities being incorporated during speech and language therapy sessions. Participants will also leave with a digital resource containing downloadable and printable materials to immediately begin using with their clients/students.

As a result of attending this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Identify when to use a conventional literacy versus comprehensive emergent literacy approach
2. Recognize our role as Speech Language Pathologists specifically in regard to working with students with complex communication needs
3. Discuss at least two strategies to employ in intervention to strengthen and reinforce emergent literacy.
4. Discuss at least two strategies to select appropriate activities that can be easily incorporated into AAC intervention.

Kristin Ellis, MS, CCC-SLP

Kristin received Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania and has worked in a variety of public, charter, and approved private schools for varying diagnoses. Kristin has worked in a variety of healthcare settings including outpatient clinics, skilled nursing facilities ,and home health. Kristin opened her private practice, Time 2 Talk Therapy Services, LLC that specializes in AAC in July of 2020 out of growing need for speech and language services in her surrounding area.
