AACES Conference On-Demand Session
Embracing AAC: A Parallel Process to a DIR Approach
Embracing AAC starts with recognizing how hard this is! We often say we need 4 hands to implement AAC. How do we regulate a child, engage in play with them and activate a high-tech device? How do we coach parents to feel confident modeling with intent for their child? This session will look at the parallel process, our ability to deal with multiple stimuli simultaneously, between Developmental, Individual-Differences, Relationship based theory and the integration of AAC. We need to understand both the child's and communication partner’s profile. We will look at how relationships can support growth in communication and weave in AAC.
