Core Boards for Toddlers: Recreating Our Lite-Tech AAC Around First Words
A toddler’s first words often include things like “uh-oh”, “ball”, “milk”, and “wow”. Yet, none of these words are found on the standard one-page AAC core boards. As AAC is embraced in early intervention, we should revisit what a core board should look like for this population. Participants will learn how two early intervention speech therapists took a first words approach to core boards and recreated the lite-tech boards used at their workplace. Participants will see examples of 70 cell and 40 cell First Words Boards and learn how these new boards led to increased buy-in from families and children.
