Learn by Playing Through Your Eyes: An Eyegaze Assessment

Drag to resize
During a pediatric language evaluation, clinicians typically picture a scenario of collecting data and language samples through play-based assessment. For a child who is unable to play by physically manipulating toys, we must reinvent what "play" means, especially for eye gaze communicators! Identifying and building fundamental play behaviors on an eye gaze device acts as a foundation for eye gaze success. In this presentation, a panel of SLPs and assistive technology experts walk through the eye gaze assessment process with case study examples, describe what play-based assessment looks like for children using eye gaze, and discuss the history of the Eyegaze Edge with pediatric populations.
