#AACES2026 Conference Session

DIY Solutions for Inclusive Play: Leveling the Playing Field for Every Body

Play is essential for development, yet many children with disabilities—including those who use AAC—encounter barriers that limit meaningful participation. This interactive session explores how the SETT Framework can guide teams in creating child-centered, inclusive play experiences. Participants will learn how to design quick, affordable DIY adaptations—EASY: Economical, Adaptable, Simple, and do-it-Yourself—to modify toys, environments, and AAC supports. Through practical examples, the session will highlight how small changes can significantly increase communication, social interaction, and engagement, empowering educators and caregivers to make play more accessible, inclusive, and participation-rich for every body.

Play for Every Body

The theme for #AACES2026 is "Play for Every Body."  Play is the heartbeat of childhood — but for many children with disabilities, play isn’t always accessible. Our Play for Every Body campaign is about opening doors: adapting environments, rethinking routines, and equipping families and professionals with practical strategies. When we say Play for Every Body, we mean every child, every ability, every body.
