Participants in AACcessible continuing education activities are expected to:

• engage respectfully with instructors and fellow participants
• contribute to a positive and collaborative learning environment
• communicate professionally during discussions, live sessions, and online interactions
• respect diverse perspectives, experiences, and professional backgrounds

Instructors and course planners are additionally expected to:

• present content that reflects current evidence-informed practices
• ensure that instructional materials and examples reflect inclusive perspectives
• foster an environment that encourages respectful dialogue and professional learning
• disclose relevant financial and nonfinancial relationships in accordance with AACcessible continuing education policies

Commitment to Inclusive Learning

AACcessible values diversity among professionals and the communities they serve. Continuing education activities offered through The AAC Academy are designed to support professionals working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and to promote practices that enhance communication access and participation for individuals with complex communication needs.

Accessibility & Accommodations

AACcessible is committed to providing accessible and inclusive continuing education opportunities. We strive to design learning experiences that allow all participants to fully engage in continuing education activities offered through The AAC Academy.

Our courses are developed with accessibility in mind whenever possible, and we work to ensure that participants with disabilities or other access needs can participate fully in our continuing education activities.

Participants who require accommodations are encouraged to contact AACcessible prior to the course so that arrangements can be made.

Accommodation requests may be submitted by:

• indicating accommodation needs during course registration when applicable
• contacting the AAC Academy through the website contact form
• emailing the continuing education team directly

We encourage participants to submit accommodation requests as early as possible, ideally at least two weeks before the course, so that appropriate arrangements can be made.

• accessible digital course materials
• alternative formats for learning materials when available
• extended time for assessments when applicable
• assistance accessing course materials within the learning platform

Ensuring Accessibility Throughout the Learning Experience

AACcessible works to ensure accessibility throughout the continuing education experience:

Before the course:
Participants may request accommodations during registration or by contacting the CE team.

During the course:
Instructors and course facilitators support inclusive participation and address accessibility needs as they arise.

After the course:
Participants may contact AACcessible if additional support is needed to access course materials or complete course requirements.

Refunds & Cancellations

AACcessible strives to provide high-quality continuing education opportunities through The AAC Academy. The following policies describe how cancellations and refunds are handled for continuing education activities.

If AACcessible Cancels or Reschedules a Course

In the unlikely event that AACcessible must cancel or reschedule a continuing education activity, participants will be notified as soon as possible using the contact information provided during registration.

If a course is cancelled, participants will receive:

• a full refund of registration fees, or
• the option to transfer their registration to a future offering of the course, when applicable.

If a course is rescheduled, participants may choose to:

• attend the course on the new date, or
• request a full refund of the registration fee if they are unable to attend.

Refunds will be issued using the original method of payment whenever possible.

If a Participant Cancels Their Registration

Participants who need to cancel their registration should contact AACcessible as soon as possible.

Refund eligibility depends on the timing of the cancellation and the type of course:

Live Courses or Events

• Cancellation requests received at least 7 days prior to the scheduled event are eligible for a full refund.
• Cancellation requests received less than 7 days before the event may not be eligible for a refund but may be eligible for transfer to a future offering when available.

Self-Paced or On-Demand Courses

• Because participants receive immediate access to course materials upon enrollment, refunds are generally not available once course access has been granted.

AACcessible may consider exceptions to these policies in extenuating circumstances.

Course Completion & CE Credit Requirements

Course Completion & CE Credit Requirements

To receive continuing education credit for courses offered through The AAC Academy, participants must complete the requirements established for each course. Completion requirements are designed to ensure meaningful participation and learning.

Requirements may include one or more of the following:

• viewing or attending the full instructional session or required course modules
• completing any required learning activities or knowledge checks
• submitting the required course evaluation
• confirming attendance or participation when applicable

Specific completion requirements are listed on each course page and within the course instructions. Participants are responsible for reviewing and completing the stated requirements in order to receive continuing education credit.

ASHA Continuing Education Requirements

AACcessible has applied to become an ASHA Approved Continuing Education Provider. At this time, the application is under review, and ASHA Continuing Education Units (ASHA CEUs) are not yet available for courses offered through The AAC Academy.

While ASHA CE approval is pending, AACcessible may offer other types of continuing education documentation for certain courses, including:

• Continuing Education Units for Community Mental Health (CMH)
• Professional Development Hours (PDH)

Not all courses offered through The AAC Academy are submitted for ASHA continuing education credit. When credit is available, the type of credit and the number of hours offered will be clearly indicated on the individual course page.

Participants should review the course description and CE information provided for each course to determine whether continuing education credit is available and what requirements must be met to receive it.

If AACcessible is approved as an ASHA CE Provider, additional information regarding ASHA CEUs and reporting procedures will be published on this page and within individual course listings.

State Licensure & Continuing Education Compliance

Continuing education requirements for professional licensure vary by state and by profession. Participants are responsible for determining whether a course offered through The AAC Academy meets the continuing education requirements for their specific state licensing board or professional credential.

While AACcessible may provide documentation of participation—such as Professional Development Hours (PDH) or Continuing Education Units for Community Mental Health (CMH)—acceptance of these hours for licensure renewal is determined by individual state regulatory agencies.

Participants should review the continuing education requirements established by their state licensing board before registering for a course. Information about state licensure requirements for speech-language pathologists and audiologists can be found on the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) website.

Instructor Disclosure Information

AACcessible is committed to providing continuing education activities that reflect transparency and professional integrity.

In accordance with continuing education best practices, instructors and course planners are asked to disclose any relevant financial or nonfinancial relationships that could influence the content of a continuing education activity.

Disclosure information is reviewed as part of the course planning process and, when relevant, is shared with participants prior to the start of the course. This information may be provided through course materials, introductory slides, or course descriptions.

The purpose of this disclosure process is to help participants make informed decisions about the educational activities in which they participate and to support transparency in continuing education.
