AACcessible maintains this Intellectual Property Rights Policy to protect the ownership and lawful use of educational materials developed and distributed through The AAC Academy, including materials used in continuing education activities.
This policy applies to course planners, instructors, contractors, staff, and participants who develop, deliver, or access educational materials through AACcessible’s continuing education programs.
1. Ownership of AACcessible Materials
Educational materials created by AACcessible employees or representatives within the scope of their role are the property of AACcessible unless otherwise specified in writing.
AACcessible retains the right to:
- use
- reproduce
- distribute
- archive
- adapt for course delivery
such materials for purposes related to continuing education programming, course administration, and professional learning.
2. Ownership of Instructor Materials
Contracted instructors, presenters, and subject matter experts retain ownership of their original intellectual property unless otherwise specified in a written agreement.
By agreeing to develop or deliver a course through The AAC Academy, instructors grant AACcessible permission to:
- host course materials within the learning platform
- distribute instructional materials to registered participants
- maintain archived course materials for record retention and administrative purposes
- retain course documentation required for continuing education compliance
Any additional use of instructor materials beyond the agreed course delivery requires written permission unless otherwise specified in the instructor agreement.
3. Copyright Compliance
AACcessible requires instructors, course planners, and staff to comply with applicable copyright laws and intellectual property regulations when developing course materials.
Individuals creating course content are responsible for ensuring that:
- source materials are properly cited
- copyrighted works are used only with appropriate permission, license, or lawful basis
- materials do not infringe on the intellectual property rights of others
4. Use of Third-Party Materials
When course content includes third-party materials such as articles, images, graphics, or published works, instructors must ensure that such materials are used in accordance with copyright law and licensing requirements.
When required, permission to reproduce or distribute copyrighted materials must be obtained prior to course delivery.
5. Participant Use of Course Materials
Course materials provided through The AAC Academy are intended for the personal educational use of registered participants.
Participants may not:
- copy or distribute course materials outside the platform
- record or redistribute course presentations or recordings
- upload course materials to external websites or file-sharing platforms
- use course materials for commercial purposes without permission
Unauthorized distribution or misuse of course materials may result in termination of course access.
6. Recordings and Archived Materials
AACcessible may record continuing education activities or retain copies of course materials for purposes including:
- participant access to course content
- course quality review
- continuing education record retention
- compliance with continuing education provider requirements
7. Policy Distribution
This Intellectual Property Rights Policy is shared with instructors, course planners, and participants through AACcessible’s continuing education documentation, website policies, and instructor agreements.
Participant expectations regarding the use of course materials are also communicated through The AAC Academy website and course participation information.
